Rules and Regulations

Submission for this competition is open from 10 Aug to 30 Sept 2010. A short-list of 60 works will be selected by the judges from the entries in Sept, 2010. Short-listed entries will be exhibited at City Square Mall, Singapore between 29 Oct and 7 Nov, 2010. The winners will only be announced and the prizes presented at the closing ceremony of Singapore International Photography Festival on 13 Nov, 2010.

Competition Rules

  1. Entrants: Entry is open to anyone who satisfies the following conditions:
    • the entry is an Eligible Image as defined in (6),
    • the entrant is a resident of Singapore or Malaysia.
    • all winners must be present in Singapore to accept the prizes at the closing ceremony on 13 Nov 2010. The winners are responsible for ensuring that he/she is able to accept the prize as set out here at their own costs.
  2. Equipment: Entries shot on either film or digital cameras are eligible. However, all images submitted must be in digital file format.
  3. Closing Date and Entry Submission: Entries will be accepted from Singapore Time 0:00hr (UTC/GMT +8 hours), 10 Aug to Singapore Time 23:59hr (UTC/GMT +8 hours), 30 Sept, 2010. All entries must be submitted on-line at the following web address: http://am.sipf.com.sg
  4. Entry Fee: The entry fee for each individual image is SGD$5.00 (Five Singapore Dollars). The entry fee should be paid when submitting the entry using Paypal provided at the submission address. There are no other fees payable for this competition or exhibition.
  5. Quantity of Entries: Each entrant may enter up to a maximum of 10 (ten) images only. Each image submitted is subjected to an entry fee of SGD$5.00.
  6. Eligible Images:
    1. Only images that are shot in an Asian country (please see (17) for list of Asian countries) are eligible for this competition.
    2. Images should reflect a general travel theme of Asia.
    3. Images that have won a prize in other national or international photography competitions are not eligible. Immediate disqualification will result should this rule be flouted.
    4. All images must not contain obscene, provocative or politically-inappropriate content. The judges reserve the right to reject any images for any reasons.
  7. Age of Images: Images should be shot within the past 5 (five) years.
  8. Digital Manipulation: Digital manipulation to enhance an image is limited to:
    1. Tonal and colour corrections
    2. Moderate sharpening and saturation
    3. Removing of dust specks and digital noise
    4. Image cropping
    5. High Dynamic Range (HDR) processing
    6. Panoramic image stitched from more than one original image
  9. Photographers' Copyrights: Entrants represent and warrant that they are the authors and owners of the copyright of all images submitted and that their entries do not infringe the privacy rights, copyrights or any other rights of any person.
  10. Reproduction Rights of Organisers and Sponsors: The organisers and sponsors reserve the right to free reproduction and exhibition of the submitted images in all media, printed and on-line, but only in connection with ASIAN MOSAICS and SINGAPORE INTERNATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY FESTIVAL and its promotion. The copyright will, at all times, be retained by the photographer and, where an image or images are reproduced by the organiser or sponsors, the photographer will be credited. Where image reproduction is unrelated to the competition and its promotion, then a fee should be agreed with the photographer in advance.
  11. On-line Submission and Notification:
    1. Entrants must submit image files in RGB jpeg format from 10 Aug to 30 Sept 2010.
    2. The longest side of each image must not exceed 1024 pixels.  Each file should not exceed 1 Mb in file size.
    3. 60 short-listed entries will be selected by a panel of judges. All short-listed entrants will be notified by email before 15 Sep 2010.
    4. Short-listed entrants will have up to seven days (3 Oct to 10 Oct 2010) to submit a high-resolution file of the selected images in TIFF format for the exhibition.
    5. The organisers will not be liable for technical, hardware, or software failures of any kind or lost or unavailable network connections which may limit or prohibit an eligible entrant's ability to participate in the competition.
  12. Prizes: Entries will be eligible for both the Judges' Prize and People's Choice Prize. The organisers reserve the right to change the prizes to comparable alternatives due to unforeseen circumstances and any changes will be posted on the competition website. Prizes are not transferable and no cash equivalent will be offered. The prizes are:

    First Prize: SGD$2000 Cash + Camera accessories worth SGD$80
    Second Prize: SGD$1000 Cash
    Third Prize: SGD$500 Cash
    People's Choice Award: SGD$500 Cash

    Prize winners are responsible for their own travel costs to collect their prizes personally. Prize winners are also liable for any applicable surcharges or taxes.

  13. Judges' Decision: A panel of judges will be appointed by the organisers and sponsors. The winners will be determined by the judges. Their decision is final and binding on all matters relating to the competition. The organisers will not enter into any correspondence regarding the judging or organisation of the competition.
  14. People's Choice Award: There will be 60 short-listed entries for exhibition at City Square Mall in Singapore from 29 Oct to 7 Nov 2010. Visitors to the exhibition will be invited to vote for their favourite images at the exhibition. The entrant with the image receiving the highest number of votes from the public will be the winner for the People's Choice Award.
  15. Prize Presentation: All winners will be announced at the SIPF Closing Ceremony in Singapore on 13 Nov 2010. Winners must be present IN PERSON during the prize presentation at 7.30pm. The organisers reserve the right to award the prize to another entrant if the winner fails to be in attendance.
  16. The Rules: By entering, all eligible entrants agree to abide by each and all the Competition Rules. Any breach of these Rules by an entrant will void their entries. The organisers reserve the right to amend any of these Rules without prior notice. Any amendments will be published on the website and it is the entrants' responsibility to review the website for any amendments.
